Monday, February 02 - SAT Dates

Students are reminded of the SAT dates for the 2014 - 15 school year.  The SAT is a very important part of the college admission process. Juniors should take the SAT second semester.  See College Counselor Lisa Fauklenberry for more details. 

Dates are: Mar 14, May 2, and June 6.

Monday, February 02 - ACT Dates

​The ACT is another option for students involved in the college application process. For more details - see Lisa Fauklenberry, College Counselor.  The dates are:

Feb 7, Apr 18, and June13.

Monday, February 02 - Westwood Prom

​The theme for this year's PROM is "Midnight in Morocco" and is April 11th from 8 - 11:30pm.  Tickets are currently $55.00 until the end of February, but will increase $10.00 each month.  

Tuesday, February 03 - SAT/ACT Help Sessions

​Westwood will offer students help on preparing for the SAT and the ACT on Tuesdays and Thursday after school. Tuesday is focused on Critical Reading and Thursdays on Math. These sessions will continue through the end of the school year.  Sessions will be in Room 323 immediately after school.

Sunday, February 08 - Football and Soccer Signees

Friday was national signing day for football and athletes around the country made a final commitment to the college of their choice.  Westwood was no different with 6 athletes signing - 5 for football and one for soccer. Adonus Lee - is a wide receiver and was a North South All-Star Player and all region. His school records include: most receiving yards, most receptions, most TDs, longest receiving TD in school history, and first receiving TD in school history. He is going to Gardner Webb University in North Carolina.  Next, we have Terrell Vaughan, our inside linebacker. He was an All-Region Player this year and has signed with the South Carolina State University Bulldogs. Both those schools are NCAA Division 1.  In NCAA division 2 - we have Shanard Stokes - outside linebaker. He is an All Region player and holds the school record for most tackles for a loss in a single season.  He has signed with Lenoir Rhyne in North Carolina.  Our fourth signee is an inside linebacker Stephen Timmons. He was a North South All Star Player, an All State Player and an All Region Player.  He also holds the record for the most tackles in a single game. He is committed to Limestone College.  Also signing with Limestone College is Tyrel Gallman. He was the 2014 Special Teams Player of the Year.

Not to be out done by the football signees, we have a soccer player also signing to Limestone College. She is Khyra Reese. Khyra scored the first goal in school history and has been the leading scorer for the last 2 years. She was voted MVP in the 2012-13 season

Sunday, February 08 - Twenty FBLA Members Win Awards at District Leadership Conference

​Awesome things continue to happen with Westwood High School FBLA!!! Congratulations to the following members on their success at the 2015 District II Leadership Conference held this past Saturday at Westwood. Thursday, February 12 - Senior Superlatives Announced

Congratulations to the 2015 Senior Superlatives.  These students were voted on by their classmates to represent the Class of 2015.  See attached list.

Thursday, February 12 - Ekkleskia Hawkins Wins $100.00 Grant for College

Ekklesia Hawkins, senior teacher cadet, won a $100 grant from the Alpha Eta chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma society. The Delta Kappa Gamma is an international society for key women educators. Ekklesia plans to attend Lander University and major in middle school education after graduation.​

Sunday, March 01 - MR WESTWOOD

The annual Mr Westwood Contest was Thursday, February 26th.  This year's theme is REWIND - Back in Time. The boys appeared in sportswear and formalwear and each performed his talent.  It was an outstanding event and all the boys were winners. Jamil Gibson was Mr. Money Bags. Xavier Vereen as Rev Run won Mr. Grand Talent, Mister Nice Guy, and Mr One-in-a-Million. Eryk Clark as Soulja Boy was first runner-up and Mr Westwood for 2015 was Nick Hooks - Mr Michael Jackson. Special performances by the Westwood Dance Crew and the Conder Dance Crew were awesome.  The "Back in the Day" faculty Dancers stole the show.

Sunday, March 01 - State DECA Winners

Teachers Jeremi Madden and Courtney Brown took members of DECA to the state competition in Charleston this weekend. The following students won awards:Faith Moss - 1st place - Principals of Business Management and Administration; Victoria Brown - 2nd place - Apparel and Accessories Marketing and Karleesto Dash and Grace Wallace - 5th place - Community Service Project .

Sunday, March 01 - National Spanish Honor Society

The following students were inducted in the National Spanish Honor SocietyKamryn Addison, Taylor Bronson, Kiersten Chiles, Jonathan Dyarmett, Jenelle Francis, Kayshon Mitchell, Aisha Robinson, Affrika Sanford, Alaina Smith, Daniel Speaks and Devin Wood​.

Sunday, March 01 - Celebration of Learning

WHS Celebration of Learning is planned for Tuesday, March 24th from 6 - 8pm.  Students, parents and the community is invited to view student work. More information will be added later.

Monday, March 02 - Drama Students Score at PDA

​The drama department's production of Booby Trap received a superior rating at the Palmetto Drama Association's competition. This put them in second place and an alternate to the national competition. The cast also received the Best Costume award. Both Will Ellis and Jacob Schneider received Excellent for Individual Acting. Memebers of the cast included: Will ellis, Jacob Schneider, Marilyn Guy, Evan Cowles, Jordan Epperson, Stephanie Seabrooks, Ashley Epperson, Haven Mumm, Rashona Lytes, Valorie Hall, Ryan Stout, Kiara Holloway, Jalil Bonds, Kira Parker, and Katelyn Robinson.
