Board Work and Impact
Spring 2026
Throughout Spring 2026, the Board of Trustees worked collaboratively with Dr. Kim Moore, district administration and community stakeholders through its committee structure to advance priorities supporting student achievement, safe schools, strong governance, fiscal responsibility, and opportunities for every student.
Here are a few highlights of that work:
Strong Governance & Future Readiness
The Board continued its comprehensive policy review, with more than 50 policies reviewed and more than 18 revised during this work.
The Board and Policy Committee also began the process of developing the district's first Artificial Intelligence policy. Stakeholders provided input on opportunities for AI to support students and employees, potential concerns and risks, and the guardrails needed for responsible use. That feedback will help inform a draft policy for additional review.
The Board also hosted three community input sessions focused on the Board's strategic goals. Community members were invited to provide feedback on the Board's identified priorities and share perspectives to help shape its upcoming strategic focus. These sessions were intentionally held before the Board and district administration begin the formal strategic planning process, ensuring community voice is part of the foundation for the district's next phase of planning.
Together, this work reflects the Board's commitment to thoughtful governance, community engagement, and planning for the district's future with students at the center.
Student Achievement, Access & Support
Through the Academic and Alternative Pathways committees, the Board focused on ensuring all students have access to strong academic opportunities and the support necessary to succeed.
Work included reviewing academic course placement and access, college and career readiness opportunities, magnet program quality, special education policy, academic accountability, discipline practices, and alternative learning pathways.
The Alternative Pathways Committee also examined discipline trends and interventions, and virtual learning options that allow students facing unique circumstances to remain engaged in school and continue earning credits.
Across this work, the focus remained on providing students with rigorous learning opportunities while creating additional pathways and interventions for those who need them.

Safe Schools & Responsible Stewardship
The Safety and Security Committee continued reviewing prevention, emergency preparedness, SRO support, security staffing, technology monitoring, and communication with families. The district also continued planning multi-agency emergency exercises and strengthening coordination among school leaders and School Resource Officers.
At the same time, the Maintenance and Facility Committee examined the district's long-term facility needs. A facilities assessment identified 287 needs totaling approximately $93 million, including HVAC systems, roofing, safety systems, technology infrastructure, and other capital needs.
That work helped inform broader financial planning. The district adopted a balanced budget following strategic resource alignment that included eliminating vacant positions, realigning resources, and reducing department and school budgets while maintaining investments such as employee raises, bonuses, secondary intervention support, and personnel system upgrades.
The Board also approved an 8% bond to address priority maintenance, operational, technology, and software needs without increasing the tax millage rate.
Showing Up & Celebrating Excellence
The Board's work continued beyond meetings and committee rooms. Trustees joined students, employees, families, and schools throughout the spring to celebrate the people who make our district special.
Highlights included Blythewood Middle School's sixth Schools to Watch recognition, Most Improved Student celebrations, the Teacher of the Year recognition dinner, and five May graduation ceremonies celebrating more than 1,800 seniors.
Board members also joined the January kickoff of the district's Centennial Celebration at the Little Red Schoolhouse, beginning a year of recognizing 100 years of educational service to the community.
Moving Forward
As we begin the 2026–27 school year, the Board remains committed to strong governance, fiscal accountability, safe schools, high-quality instruction, support for employees, and ensuring every student has opportunities to succeed.
