 JROTC

The Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Program at Ridge View High School, prepares students for responsible leadership roles while promoting scholastic excellence and an awareness of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens.  The program is a stimulus for promoting graduation from high school and provides instruction, training, and rewarding opportunities that will benefit the JROTC cadet, the community, and ultimately, the nation.  Cadets are challenged both physically and mentally by a curriculum which stresses self-discipline, teamwork, application of leadership skills and personal responsibility.  Emphasis is placed on creating a proactive environment where students are participants rather than spectators in the learning process.  Numerous extracurricular activities include drill teams and rifle teams open to both men and women, and many opportunities for adventure training.  Every effort will be made to accommodate students transferring from other JROTC programs.  Students enrolled in ARMY ROTC classes must meet US Army haircut standards and wear the Army uniform at least once each week.  Uniforms, which are US Government property, are issued at no charge to the student but must be returned at the end of the year.  JROTC seeks to promote and instill within each student the following:
  • An understanding of the ethical values and principles that underlie good citizenship.
  • Development of leadership potential, while living and working cooperatively with others.
  • The ability to think logically and communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing.
  • An appreciation of the importance of physical fitness in maintaining good health.
  • The importance of high school graduation for a successful future.
  • Development of personal mental management abilities.
  • Familiarity with military history as it relates to America's culture.
  • Development of the skills necessary to work effectively as a member of a team.
