Ridge View High School World Percussion Ensemble Chosen for the Featured Performance for SCMEA

For the first time, the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA) selected the Ridge View High School World Percussion Ensemble to perform at the February 2024 Professional Development Conference.
Wesley Hipps, Associate Director of Bands and Director of Percussion at Ridge View, says it was a true honor to share the stage with his wonderful world percussion students as they entertained with music from the African Diaspora.
“My hope is to share the joy of learning and performing steel band music and accurately representing the culture of the people of Trinidad and Tobago," said Hipps.
Hipps created the ensemble in 2019. One of his students, Trinity Roberts said, “Our performance at SCMEA will hopefully inspire music educators all around the state and share the culture of Trinidad and Tobago. I’m super excited to be able to share this experience with my classmates.”
The South Carolina Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference was held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
