Prisma Health Human Resources and Nursing Academics, in partnership with Midlands Technical College, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and Richland School District Two, are proud to announce the launch of the Midlands Youth Apprenticeship (MYA) program in nursing.

Through this innovative initiative, high school students dually enrolled at Midlands Technical College and their high schools are employed PRN (as needed) by Prisma Health as Nursing Support Assistants. By the end of their apprenticeship, students will have:

  • Completed all prerequisite courses for the nursing career pathway,
  • Earned approximately 32 college credits (about three semesters paid for), and
  • Gained valuable work experience and future opportunities for employment in healthcare.

On August 1, 2025, Richland Two proudly welcomed its newest signees into the Midlands Youth Apprenticeship Program:

  • Joselin Cruz Flores, Richland Northeast High
  • Eva Eargle, Blythewood High
  • Chrystian Nesmith, Blythewood High
  • Jaidyn Robinson, Ridge View High
  • Casey Shaw, Spring Valley High
  • Justin Washington, Spring Valley High

"I am incredibly excited to be in this program,” said Eva Eargle, a junior at Blythewood High School. “I have already learned a great deal of information and seen many interesting things. I would love to be a nurse. I'm not sure what type yet. But I'm so grateful for everything."

The Midlands Youth Apprenticeship program exemplifies the power of partnership, giving students early exposure to careers in healthcare, reducing the cost of higher education, and strengthening the future workforce.
