MattShermanAward

Richland School District Two is proud to announce that Matt Sherman, principal of Blythewood High School, has been named the 2025 Secondary Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA). This recognition marks the third consecutive year Richland Two has been home to a SCASA Principal of the Year.

Celebrating Leadership Excellence

Sherman has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to education since becoming principal of Blythewood High School in 2018. With 24 years of service in Richland School District Two, Sherman began his career as a special education teacher at Ridge View High School, where he earned Teacher of the Year honors and chaired the special education department. Before assuming his current role, he gained valuable administrative experience as an assistant principal at Round Top Elementary and Blythewood High, as well as an assistant administrator at Blythewood High.

Under Sherman’s leadership, Blythewood High has upheld its tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and student engagement. He is deeply committed to fostering pride among students and staff by emphasizing shared core values: show respect, take responsibility, and build relationships. Guided by these principles, Sherman prioritizes opportunities for students to lead and grow, ensuring that all graduates are well-prepared for their future—whether enlisted, enrolled, or employed.

Believing in the power of collective leadership, Sherman amplifies the voices and choices of students and staff, cultivating a vibrant and inclusive school culture.

Sherman earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Presbyterian College and a Master of Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. He holds certifications in both elementary and secondary administration and achieved National Board Certification in 2005. An active member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA), Sherman remains committed to advancing educational leadership across the state.

A Legacy of Excellence in Richland Two

“This recognition of Mr. Sherman is a testament to the exceptional leadership and commitment to excellence that define Richland Two,” said Superintendent Dr. Kim D. Moore. “His achievements inspire our students, staff, and the entire community.”

Richland Two celebrates this prestigious honor as the district continues to prepare students to be future ready.
