From CSI to Courtroom: Windsor Students Shine

Windsor Elementary School invites the community and members of the media to attend its Spring Mock Trial on May 15th at 10:00 a.m. at the Forest Acres Municipal Court at 5205 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC.

Led by School Resource Officer Deputy Tameika McFarlane, alongside 5th-grade teachers Nicholas Hughes and Terria Chandler, students have spent the spring semester taking their learning from a Crime Scene Investigation lab straight to the courtroom.

The immersive project began with students acting as "Forensic Investigators," meticulously investigating a simulated crime scene and gathering crucial evidence. Following the investigation phase, the 5th graders stepped into vital courtroom roles to prepare for trial, acting as the prosecution, defense, witnesses, suspect, and jury members.

To ensure an authentic legal experience, both the Defense and Prosecution student teams have worked diligently alongside local attorneys to build, refine, and prepare their cases for the courtroom.

"This experience has provided our students with an incredible opportunity to develop critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and public speaking skills in an authentic and engaging way," said Windsor Elementary School Principal DeAnna Savage. "We hope you will join us to see the action unfold and help us learn the verdict!"

Members of the media and the public are encouraged to attend to support the students and witness the culmination of their hard work.
