Friday, April 15 - JKE Foundation Scholarship

All applications are due May 20th, 2016

Attention, parents of third, fourth, and fifth graders! Testing season is here…

As you may already know, state and federal mandates require that elementary students in grades 3-5 take part in achievement testing each year. All three grades are expected to assess Reading, Writing, and Math achievement. Students in fourth and fifth grade are expected to assess Science and Social Studies achievement as well. We are now making preparations for those tests.

In South Carolina, Writing, Reading, and Math achievement is measured using the SC READY. This test is new to us this year, and it replaces the ACT Aspire test administered last year for Reading, Writing, and Math. Science and Social Studies achievement is measured using SC PASS, as it has been for several years. Our school has chosen to take SC PASS and SC READY in the online format, using Chromebooks.

Students will take SC READY and SC PASS in April and May. The dates are listed below. Please mark your calendars!

Preparing for the Tests Now:

In preparation for the tests, please ensure that students have everything necessary for their optimum performance. That means that any broken glasses are fixed or replaced so that students can see their best; any prescription or over-the-counter medications are in hand and properly administered so that students feel their best; and that any other medical or dental issues which might be a distraction (toothaches, etc.) are addressed prior to these testing dates.

Begin talking to students about showing what they know and doing their personal best on their tests.

Appointments and Testing Dates:

Please ensure that no appointments are scheduled during these testing dates.  Students who miss school on these dates will be required to make-up tests during subsequent school days.

Students are required to begin and end their tests on the same day. For that reason, students who begin their tests and are picked-up early for an appointment may not have sufficient time to complete their tests and will not be allowed to complete their tests on a different day.

On Test Days:

Students should have a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast to help them feel and think their best. They should be on time to school, and come to school happy, relaxed, and wearing comfortable clothes and footwear. A jacket or sweater might also be appropriate, in case the testing room is cooler than expected

Students should avoid bringing any electronic devices of any sort to school as they are prohibited in their classrooms during testing.

Online Testing Tools and Tutorials:

Both the SC READY and SC PASS will be administered online. To familiarize students with the tools available to them during their tests, some resources have been made available. Students may review instructional tutorials and practice using the online tools by answering former test items online. You may allow your student(s) to practice using the website below:
