Revised Attendance Lines

No.  These changes will take effect in the 2026-2027 school year.

Rising 5th graders may be approved to remain at their current school of Attendance for their 5th grade year if a Fifth Grade Exemption form is submitted.  If no request is received, students will be assigned to the new school of residence for the 2026-2027 school year.

Siblings of fifth-graders who are approved to remain at their current residential school may also remain for the duration of the elementary school level, provided a Sibling Request Form is submitted and approved. If no request is received, students will be assigned to the realigned school for the 2026-2027 school year.

No, in this case, transportation would become the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

Some bus routes will need to be revised once the changes go into effect.

These changes will not impact magnet programs; the programs will remain at their current schools.

No, there would be no changes to the middle or high school attendance lines.

As the number of students increases in one area, it may decline in another.  This can result in unbalanced utilization of space (one school may become over capacity while others have excess capacity).  We occasionally adjust attendance lines to balance our use of space in our buildings.  Adjusting attendance lines means that the district can be fiscally responsible by delaying the need to expand existing schools, build new ones or rely on portables.

Students who have been accepted into a school of choice may stay at that school until they progress to the next academic level (elementary to middle or middle to high school).  There are circumstances that will cause a student to have their Choice revoked pertaining to poor attendance or lack of cooperation with the school and academic performance in programs (magnets, AVID) that require maintenance of academic standards.

If your child is enrolled in one of these programs, they may remain enrolled as long as they meet applicable academic and attendance requirements.  If your school of residence changes and you are no longer zoned for your school of enrollment, transportation will not be provided.

The transportation department will be working on bus routes.  The transportation department will communicate the bus routes and bus stops to families.  Students who live within 1.5 miles will have to walk to school only if the walk route is safe.  Safety is the most important factor we consider, and if a road is not safe to cross or walk down, we will provide transportation.
