10 Year Facility Plan
Many district partners — employees, parents and community members — have played a part in researching, reviewing data, giving feedback and even dreaming about what it will take to ensure our facilities, district-wide, support our vision to be premier. Here is a brief timeline of the work that occurred leading up to the Richland Two Board of Trustees adopting the 10-year Facility Plan on May 22, 2018.
September 9, 2014 — Updated facility study shared with Board of Trustees — Richland Two district and school leaders worked with MB Kahn to review and update enrollment projections and to identify major repairs and renovations needed for existing facilities but exceed the available capacity of the annual eight-percent capital projects budget.
Fall 2016–Fall 2017 — Facility study updates, work sessions and demography study — District and school leaders worked with MB Kahn to assess facilities and update study. District administrators provided regular updates on facilities during work/education sessions. Dr. David J. Cowen conducted the demography study.
September 2017–May 2018 — 10-year Facilities Plan: Pathway to Premier Facilities finalized. — Members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet met weekly with Dr. Baron R. Davis to review and analyze research and to use the results to develop a roadmap for how Richland Two can address facility needs throughout the district in the areas of safety/security, educational, athletics/arts and technology.
Oct.–Nov. 2017 — Strategic Planning Meetings Focusing on Facilities — Parents and employees were invited to attend any of the five meetings held at the district high schools to engage in conversations with district and school administrators. The conversations focused on how to ensure our facilities support a culture of being premier in all that we do. Attendees had the opportunity to complete a survey following the meetings.
Dec. 5, 2017 — Summary of meetings and survey results shared with Board of Trustees. Feedback from these meetings helped Superintendent Baron Davis and members of his Cabinet solidify the Areas of Focus for a 10-year Facility Plan.
January–May 2018 — Informational presentations during meetings with district’s Business and Educational Alliance, Superintendent’s Faculty Advisory Council and Parent Advisory Council
February 2018 — Enhancement plan based on a district-wide assessment of district’s educational facilities — Perkins and Will and Quackenbush Architects conducted the district-wide assessment and developed the plan. While the previously mentioned facility study addresses enrollment trends and structural needs of district facilities, this enhancement plan explores the educational adequacy as compared with a current district-wide vision for teaching and learning how current schools compare with space programming for a new model school. It offers an educational adequacy assessment of current schools as compared to Guiding Principles and model school programs for new facilities. Together the facilities study and the enhancement plan provide a comprehensive look at both physical and educational adequacy of Richland Two’s school campuses.
