Richland School District Two is the largest and fastest-growing public school district in the South Carolina Midlands. We serve more than 27,000 pre-K through 12th grade students in 40 schools and centers: 20 elementary schools, seven middle schools, five high schools, four magnet centers, one child development center and one alternative school. We offer a variety of magnet programs for every type of learner. The district also has an adult, continuing and technology education center and a charter high school. Our 20th elementary school Jackson Creek Elementary opened in August 2017.
In the Fall of 2016, students began attending classes at R2i2, which includes a new, one-of-a-kind educational facility, state-of-the-art conference center, district office and the Richland Library Sandhill. At R2i2, juniors and seniors from any of the district’s five high schools participate in several focus areas of learning, including: Advanced Engineering, Advanced Information Technology, Advanced Hospitality Arts, Supply Chain Logistics, Advanced Manufacturing and Managerial Business. Students develop a keen sense of what it takes to succeed in college, life and the business world all while learning to be innovators. Since its opening, students have been working alongside business professionals, university professors and high school teachers in this 63,000-square-foot facility. In flexible learning spaces, students develop creative problem solving, teamwork and analytical skills.
We instill in our students the importance of making positive contributions to people and planet. For our part, we have built our newest facilities with a focus on environmental sustainability, with some earning LEED certification. R2i2 earned a Green Globe rating of two globes (maximum is three).
We take pride in the knowledge that more than a dozen of the district’s instructional and extracurricular programs for K-12 have served as models for those developed in other districts across the country. The district offers an array of magnet programs whose focus ranges from science and technology to leadership and entrepreneurial pursuits and more. We strive to utilize the latest technology including SMART Boards and our 1TWO1 Computing program which provides access to a personal, mobile computing device, for every student to enhance the learning experiences.
