Summit Parkway Middle celebrates 25th Anniversary

Join Summit Parkway Middle on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 6 p.m., as the school celebrates its 25th Anniversary. This celebration program will highlight the groundbreaking and building of Summit Parkway Middle, what the community was like in 1990, and other interesting stories about the early days of the school. Former teachers and staff members, as well as current faculty, will be recognized.
Guest speaker is Jo Hecker, principal of Summit Parkway Middle when the doors opened in 1990. Current Principal Andrew Barbone will also share his view and vision for the coming years.
The Summit Parkway Middle School Band will perform, with guest conductor Dr. Jerry Gatch. Dr. Gatch, who is currently the associate professor of music and director of bands at Newberry College, was the band director at Summit Parkway in 1990. Former students will also perform the band that evening.
After the ceremony, guests are invited to the media center for the 25th Anniversary Gallery Walk.
Construction on Summit Parkway Middle began in February 1989, and the school officially opened on August 20, 1990.
