STUDENT COUNCILS GET GOLD STAMP OF EXCELLENCE

4/8/2022

The National Student Council (NatStuCo) is recognizing student councils at all five Richland Two high schools for their exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and community.  Student councils at Blythewood High, Richland Northeast High, Ridge View High, Spring Valley High and Westwood High schools have been named 2022 National Gold Councils of Excellence.

NatStuCo Gold Councils of Excellence are the models of quality for which other student councils should strive to become. Recently in December 2021, the schools collected 42,198 non-perishable food items, 38,633 meals, $21,518 in monetary donations, 3,850 toiletries, 1,765 books, 627 pairs of socks, 530 toys, 75 book bags, 57 scarves, 51 bikes, 35 washcloths, 321 gift sets, games, and other requested items; 200 holiday cards, and 121 pints of blood for their school wide winter service projects. Schools also sponsored 52 children and adopted 68 families during the holidays.

To meet the requirements for the National Gold Council of Excellence Award, a student council must meet a variety of criteria. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings, a democratic election process, the councils have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community. The NatStuCo program is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
