SPRING VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER WINS NATIONAL RECOGNITION

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Josh Drews has been selected to receive the 2020 National Secondary Art Educator Award by the National Art Education Association. Drews has taught visual arts at Spring Valley High School since 2001. This prestigious award, determined through a peer review of nominations, recognizes the exemplary contributions, service, and achievements of one outstanding NAEA member annually at the national level within their division. The award will be presented at the NAEA National Convention in Minneapolis on March 25-28.
He has helped develop arts curriculum for South Carolina, including co-authoring the 2010 and 2017 state media arts standards, and he has written state curriculum guides for media arts and printmaking.
Drews is the former president of the South Carolina Art Education Association and is currently the Secondary Director for the National Art Education Association. He is also an avid print maker and working artist. Drews is a National Board Certified teacher. He is a former SC Art Educator of the Year and S.C. Art Education Association’s Secondary Art Educator of the Year.
