SANDLAPPER ELEMENTARY TO PRESENT ROBOTICS EPIC BUILD

10/27/2021

Sandlapper Elementary School is celebrating its success in the classroom with a virtual showcase of computer science and robotics. On Friday, Oct. 29 at 8:45 a.m., Sandlapper will begin hosting a Virtual Epic Build Celebration to share student projects with robotics. The event will be streamed live at www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxI5tdBaZb8 from classrooms across the school.

“Students will share their work with different robotics kits including three different versions of Lego Robots. Parents and community members will get to see and hear from students and teachers about the way robotics has been integrated into our classrooms,” said Computer Science Immersion Lead Teacher Dr. Tim Swick.

"Teaching robotics, even to our youngest learners, helps prepare students for a critical growing industry. We feel it is important that all students are given equitable access to important STEM related programming skills so that our students are ready for professions that might not even exist yet. The ‘Epic Build’ celebration allows our students to demonstrate the creative problem solving they have learned through robotics," said Sandlapper Elementary School Principal Connie May.

Sandlapper is a Computer Science Immersion School. In partnership with Code to the Future, it integrates computer science skills throughout the school experience which includes all core subject areas. Sandlapper is the only elementary school in the district that offers a full computer science integrated curriculum.
