Nicolas Jones is a 2021 recipient of the William Dahlgren Teacher of Excellence Award from the SAMPE (Society for Advancement of Material and Process Engineering) Foundation. Jones teaches Computer Aided Design & 3D Printing at the Richland School District Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2) Student Innovation Center. The award recognizes outstanding K-12 teachers for inspiring students in math, science and engineering fields and comes with a $500 prize.

“I am honored to receive the William Dahlgren Teacher of Excellence Award. I would like to thank Dr. Ramy Harik from the University of South Carolina (UofSC) for the nomination and his continued support of our program at R2i2. We hope to continue our pursuit of authentic learning and premier STEM education,” said Jones.

Dr. Harik is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the College of Engineering and Computing. “I nominated Nick because he holds so much passion for the profession that it demonstrates itself through the amazing work his students are doing. Nick inspires his students to be their best, and provides them with knowledge on cutting innovation that prepares them for a career like no other,” Dr. Harik said.

Jones is a product of Richland Two. He attended North Springs Elementary, Summit Parkway Middle, and Spring Valley High School. He also attended the UofSC and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Entrepreneurial Management. His career path included retail management and construction management. Jones was a long-term substitute teacher in Richland Two prior to joining the faculty at R2i2.
