Faculty Focus: Math and Science Partnership
 
Nancy Gregory, Chief Instructional Officer, shared information on the Math and Science Partnership (MSP) grant. The grant allows Richland Two math and science teachers to work collabora​tively with teachers in Lee County School District and the Fairfield County School District to form professional learning communities.
 
Action: New Magnet Proposal
 
The board approved a proposal from Dr. Cheryl Guy, Westwood High principal, on the school’s new magnet proposal, Studio D. This new magnet program will provide rigorous interdisciplinary learning experiences, allowing students to learn key academic content, exceeding state standards and bringing content to life through project-based learning and design-thinking strategies.
 
Action: Approval of Jackson Creek Attendance Lines
 
The board approved the recommended attendance lines for Jackson Creek Elementary School.
 
Action: Certification of Delegates for SCSBA Delegate Assembly
 
The board selected Amelia McKie and Craig Plank to serve as delegates for the South Carolina School Boards Association Delegate Assembly with James Manning and Dr. Cheryl Caution-Parker as alternates.
 
Report: Richland Two Diversity Plan
 
Chief Diversity and Multicultural Inclusion Officer Helen Grant gave a presentation summarizing the district’s Diversity Plan. This comprehensive diversity and multicultural inclusion plan focuses on efforts in the areas of Instruction, Communication and Partnerships, Recruitment and Retention, Business and Climate.

The board heard a report on updates to Policy KF (Community Use of School and District Facilities).
