Richland Two July 24, 2018 School Board Meeting Highlights

 

At 5:30 p.m., the board convened in executive session to discuss student appeals and student admission requests into the district’s Adult Education program. Public session resumed at 6:30 p.m.

Special Recognitions

Five Richland Two school board members were recognized for their achievements with the S.C. School Boards Association Boardmanship Institute.  The Boardmanship Institute offers year-round training focused on leadership skills for board members on state and national educational issues.

Dr. Cheryl Caution-Parker, Amelia McKie and Craig Plank have reached Level 4 by earning 200 points within four consecutive years or less. They received a certificate and pin with a blue stone.

Board members Lindsay Agostini and Jamie Shadd have reached Level Three by earning 100 points within two consecutive years or less. They received a certificate and gold pin.

Voting Items

Consent Agenda — The Board approved the Consent Agenda that included the minutes from the meeting on June 26; and employment recommendations, releases and in-district transfers/promotions.

Executive Session Items — The Board voted on items from executive session including student appeals and student admission request into the district’s Adult Education Program.

 Policy Revisions — The Board approved changes to Board Policy DJ (Purchasing), DJGA (Sales Calls and Demonstrations [NEW]) and GCOA (Evaluation of Instructional Staff)

Bond Referendum for Capital Projects — The board adopted the resolution ordering a referendum to the fund the proposed amount not to exceed $468,406,000.

No-Action Requested Items

Policy Revisions — The Board received proposed changes to Policy GBEB (Staff Conduct).

Dual Language Report — The Board heard a report on the district’s dual language magnet at Polo Road Elementary from Principal Dr. Cassandra Bosier

Legislative Update — Dr. Harry Miley, the district’s chief financial officer, gave the Board heard a legislative update.
