Richland Two December 5, 2017 School Board Meeting Highlights


At 5:45 p.m. after calling the meeting to order, the Richland Two Board of Trustees convened in executive session to discuss student expulsion and appeals; student admission requests into the district’s Adult Education program; employment recommendations; and employment releases and in-district transfers. At 7 p.m., the Board reconvened in public session.
Student Focus
Linda Hall, principal of Sandlapper Elementary, and the school's Student Lighthouse Team highlighted their Leader in Me Program. Sandlapper Elementary earned Leader in Me Lighthouse School recognition during the 2016-2017 school year. This honor is given by Franklin-Covey to recognize the school's attainment of a well-rounded leadership model.
Voting Items
Consent Agenda
The Board approved the Consent Agenda that included the minutes from the previous meeting on Nov. 14, Employment Recommendations and the monthly Technology Report.
Executive Session Items
The Board approved motions related to Employment Recommendations; Student Admission Request into the District's Adult Education Program; Student Expulsions; and Student Appeals.
Policy Revisions
The Board approved changes to policies: CH (Policy Implementation), CHA/CHB (Development of Administrative Rules) and CM (School District Annual Reports)
SCSBA Region 8 Director
Members of the Richland Two School Board select Board Member Amelia McKie to fill the vacancy in the Region 8 Director seat of the S.C. School Board Association. The SCSBA Board of Directors will approve the appointment at its next meeting January 20.
Legislative Update
Board Member Amelia McKie shared a brief legislative update.
Proposal: Policy Revisions
The board received as proposed changes to policies for first reading: Policy KLGA (School Resource Officers) and IKADD (Content and Recovery).
Comprehensive Annual Financial Report Ending June 30, 2017
Dr. Harry Miley, Richland Two chief financial officer, and Matthew Hodges from Burkett, Burkett & Burkett Certified Public Accountants presented a report on the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
Data Overview
Director Dr. John Arnold, director of accountability and assessment, presented a data overview on student learning data during the 2016-2017 school year.
Will Anderson, executive director of operations and logistics, presented a report on facilities that included an update on current facilities, planning for facility needs, overview of recently held strategic planning meeting focusing on facilities, and results from surveys given at these meetings.
