RIDGE VIEW STUDENTS SELECTED FOR LEADERSHIP BUILDING PROGRAM
RIDGE VIEW STUDENTS SELECTED FOR LEADERSHIP BUILDING PROGRAM
11/5/2020
Ridge View High School’s Student 2 Student Team (S2S) has been selected for the 2020 class of the Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership Program. The program was established by the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) and offers select students an intensive leadership building experience.
Through a longstanding partnership with the US Military Academy at West Point, four student leaders from 24 schools in Alabama, Louisiana, Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Colorado, Kentucky, New Mexico, Washington, Oklahoma, Germany and Guam will attend this virtual event. Students are all active in the MCEC S2S™ Program. Ridge View’s four student leaders are Seniors Jaden Graham-Martin and Naomi Hurst, Junior Justyn Colon-Rodriguez and Freshman
Le-Daviah
Terry. They will spend time talking with influential leaders, sharing ideas and challenges, and participating in team
‐building activities led by West Point faculty, distinguished guests, and the MCEC Student Programs Team.
School Counselor, Anne Burley, is the sponsor for the S2S Team and says their goal is to have 100 percent acceptance of new students as they transition in and out of Ridge View. Designed with the military child in mind, the program has grown to include all transitioning students.
“Our leadership team is honored to have this opportunity to expand their skills to impact the immediate community around them. The Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership Program has afforded them the opportunity to interact with students around the globe - Guam, Germany, and all over the United States. They plan to take what they've learned to neighboring Rice Creek Elementary School,” said Burley.
S2S is based on five core values: leadership, academics, service, finding the way, and relationships. Each value seeks to guide transitioning students as they learn more about their campus and the culture and community of their new home. Each team will be awarded $500 to complete a leadership project in their school or community. The Harker Heights, TX. MCEC announced Ridge View’s selection. With over 200 active S2S programs globally, this is a great honor for the Ridge View High School community and school district.
