RIDGE VIEW HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYER RANKS TOPS IN THE NATION
RIDGE VIEW HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYER RANKS TOPS IN THE NATION
2/14/2022
Ridge View High School junior G. G. Jackson is ranked as the number one basketball prospect in the nation for the Class of 2023. Ranking service Rivals.com has placed the five star recruit, who stands 6-foot-10, at the top of its list of 150 players.
Jackson says this new ranking comes with a lot of responsibility. “For me, being the number one player in the ‘23 class means that I have proven time and time again that I came through in big moments. As a result of this honor, I will have to work even harder to continue to prove I am worthy of the ranking. I know I am now the hunted and not the hunter,” said Jackson.
Jackson has a plethora of college scholarship offers. He has taken official visits to the University of Virginia, Georgetown University, the University of North Carolina, Duke University and is scheduled to take an official visit to the University of South Carolina next week.
Ridge View Head Boys Basketball Coach Yerrick Stoneman says with this ranking, Jackson has to continue to work even harder. “He is going to have to really stay focused even more than he was because now everyone is coming for him. Every time he steps on the court, somebody is coming after him. His ultimate goal isn’t to become a college basketball player, it is to be an NBA player. When he achieves that, it will be to an all-star, a Hall of Famer level,” said Stoneman.
Under Stoneman’s leadership, Ridge View has won three consecutive state championships in 2018, 2019, and 2020, and six straight Region titles. Jackson played on the 2020 championship team. The Blazers are hoping to return to the winner’s circle as playoffs begin later this month.
