RIDGE VIEW’S YERRICK STONEMAN NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR
RIDGE VIEW’S YERRICK STONEMAN NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR
11/19/2020
Coaches from around the state have endorsed Ridge View High School Basketball Coach Yerrick Stoneman as the best boys basketball coach in South Carolina. Stoneman recently received the 2020 South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association (SCACA) Boys Basketball Coach of the Year award. For the past 28 years, the SCACA has selected one Coach of the Year per sport, regardless of class. The award is based on the overall body of work, including the coach’s success as well as the team’s success.
The Ridge View Blazers began their historic run to three Class 4A State Basketball Championships in 2018 under Stoneman, a former assistant coach for Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. His teams won championships in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Stoneman, now in his fifth year coaching at Ridge View, says being awarded the SCACA Coach of the Year award is a meaningful honor.
“There are many excellent coaches in South Carolina and to be recognized by and among those coaches is a great privilege. Even though my name is on the award, I consider it to be a team award. That team includes the current and past players, coaching staff, and school administrators from the last few years. Without that team, my achievements would not have been nearly as successful,” said Stoneman.
Ridge View Principal Dr. Brenda Mack-Foxworth selected Stoneman as her head coach and says she couldn’t be more pleased with his accomplishments.
“It’s clear to see Coach Stoneman loves the game of basketball almost as much as he loves his players. He goes above and beyond to ensure his players are successful in class, with family, and have a college or career plan in place upon graduation,” said Dr. Mack-Foxworth.
The Blazers are the only boys’ basketball team in Richland School District Two to win three consecutive state championships. In 2018 and 2019, Ridge View defeated Wilson High School in Florence, and Myrtle Beach High School in 2020 to win the Class 4A title games.
