RICHLAND TWO RECEIVES TWO PALMETTO STATE ARTS EDUCATION AWARDS

10/10/2021

Two schools in Richland School District Two will receive awards this month from Palmetto State Arts Education (PSAE). Bridge Creek Elementary Medical, Engineering, and Discovery (MED) through Arts Magnet School will receive the 2021 PSAE Ray Doughty Arts Integration award. L. W. Conder Elementary Arts Integrated Magnet School will receive the 2021 PSAE S.C. School of Excellence in Arts Education award.

MED at Bridge Creek Elementary principal Kristen Eubanks says her teachers and administrators are doing a wonderful job of increasing arts integration opportunities in her school and community.

"It is truly an honor for MED at Bridge Creek to receive the Ray Doughty Arts Integration Award. Through arts integration, we are able to extend and deepen learning for our students as they use their 21st century skills. Arts integration has empowered our students to take an active role in their learning process.  This is more important now than ever to help our students find their own pathways to purpose,” Eubanks said.

Conder Elementary School principal Paula China says her school is committed to arts integration throughout the curriculum and in various programs at Conder. She commends her teachers for their creative approaches to teaching the arts.

“At Conder, we believe an arts infused education enriches, motivates, and broadens student learning. We are grateful for this recognition from PSAE that shines a light on the impactful work our teachers do in providing meaningful arts opportunities for our students,” China said.

PSAE will host an awards ceremony at their Arts Integration Conference Resilience on Tuesday, October 12 at noon at the Cooperative Conference Center in Columbia.

Bridge Creek and Conder are school-wide magnets that allow all students to participate in the specialized arts integration focus of the school. Bridge Creek uses project based learning to integrate STEAMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Medical) into academic content. Recently, Conder received national certification from Magnet Schools of America for providing high-quality, innovative educational options to families and students that promote choice, diversity and academic excellence.
