Healthy family discussions about youth substance use will be on the menu at the Healthy Choices, Healthy Families forum this month. The Richland Two Project CARE Coalition will engage parents and students with dinner and dialogue on Thursday, June 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2) located at 763 Fashion Drive, Columbia 29229. Participants will learn ways to communicate effectively when discussing youth alcohol and prescription drug use as well as engage in Power of Parents and Power of Youth training sessions.
Javana Lovett is director of the Project CARE Coalition. “This initiative continues our efforts to create conditions that empower families, school and communities to reduce substance abuse and other high risk behaviors,” said Lovett.
Dr. Justin Muller, LMFT-I, Intervention Specialist with Richland Two Family and Intervention Services will serve as the facilitator for the Dinner & Dialogue session. The target audience is middle and high school parents and students but the event is open to anyone. The event is free. Seating is limited to 50 people. Online registration is required at https://careconnectsdd.eventbrite.com.
Partners in the event are the Richland Two Parent Institute for Learning and Engagement, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and Lexington-Richland Alcohol Drug Abuse Council (LRADAC).
