Partnerships help with back-to-school necessities

8/28/2015

The beginning of the school year can be a stressful time, especially when it comes to purchasing school supplies. In an effort to offset back-to-school expenses for families in need, Richland School District Two joined a number of community businesses, organizations and volunteers to sponsor Stuff-The-Bus and Stuff-A-Cruiser donation drives throughout northeast Richland County.

The Stuff-The-Bus event was held in partnership with Richland Two, Johnson Controls, Wal-Mart, Faulkner/Haynes & Associates, Spirax Sarco, Chao & Associates, Spratlin Electric Controls, Maybin Construction Company. Community volunteers oversaw school supply drives at the Forest Drive, Two Notch Road and Killian Road Wal-Marts. Richland Two social workers will distribute the collected items to students throughout the district.

Richland Two also partnered with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Decker Boulevard Business Coalition, Richland County Neighborhood Planning Program and the Decker Food Lion to sponsor Stuff-A-Cruiser supply drive.

In addition to Stuff-The-Bus and Stuff-A-Cruiser, Palmetto GBA (BlueCross BlueShield) Price Waterhouse Coopers, Verizon, area churches, businesses and local organizations also donated thousands of supplies that were delivered to district schools.

“Every donation is greatly appreciated and all supplies will go to support Richland Two

students,” said Richland Two Lead Social Worker Abby Cobb. “Knowing that students have access to the tools they need, when they need them, allows students to be engaged and teachers to focus on teaching and learning.”
