Richland Two will host the inaugural PREMIER 100 Conference on March 28, 2020 at the R2i2 Conference Center located at 763 Fashion Drive, in the Village at Sandhill. The PREMIER 100 will be an annual conference supporting Richland School District Two's effort to not only recruit, but to retain male educators of color.
The keynote speakers are : Sharif el-Mekki and Richland Two Superintendent Dr. Baron R. Davis.
Sharif el-Mekki is the Founder and CEO of the Center for Black Educator Development. The Center is developing a nationally relevant model to measurably increase teacher diversity and support Black educators through four pillars: Professional learning, Pipeline, Policies, and Pedagogy. Prior to founding the Center, El-Mekki served as a nationally recognized principal and U.S. Department of Education Principal Ambassador Fellow. El-Mekki’s school, Mastery Charter Shoemaker, was recognized by President Obama and Oprah Winfrey, and was awarded the prestigious EPIC award for three consecutive years as being amongst the top three schools in the country for accelerating students’ achievement levels.
Richland Two Superintendent Dr. Baron R. Davis has been an educator for more than 20 years and is the first African American to hold this position in the district’s 90 plus years history. During his educational career, Dr. Davis has served as a successful school leader in rural, urban and suburban school systems where his schools were recognized for closing the achievement gap, increasing graduation rates and increasing Advanced Placement participation rates. While principal of Spring Valley, the school was recognized by the Washington Post as one of America's Most Challenging High Schools and by Newsweek as one of America’s Top High Schools.
Attendees will attend workshop sessions and panel discussions facilitated by educators from across the Palmetto state as well as many from Richland Two classrooms. They will discuss opportunities and initiatives within the district, our culture and the details that make us the PREMIER school district in South Carolina!
