NEW NATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS FOR RICHLAND TWO MAGNET PROGRAMS
NEW NATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS FOR RICHLAND TWO MAGNET PROGRAMS
9/18/2023
Five magnet programs in Richland School District Two are continuing to earn top honors from Magnet Schools of America (MSA). Magnet programs at Ridge View High School and Spring Valley High School received national certification and recertification.
Earning certification for the first time is the Med Pro STEAMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Medical) schoolwide magnet at Ridge View. The Institute of Health Sciences, the Scholar’s Academy Magnet for Business and Law at Ridge View; and the Discovery magnet and Explorations magnet at Spring Valley High earned recertification.
Nationally certified magnet schools provide top-quality, innovative educational options to families and students that promote choice, diversity, and academic excellence. MSA will officially recognize these schools and programs at its annual national conference in April 2024 in New York City.
The district now has 32 nationally certified magnet programs. Twenty-two have earned the distinction of becoming Nationally Certified Demonstration Magnet schools by exceeding the criteria required to meet the MSA National Standards of Excellence. Since 2010, magnet programs in Richland Two have received 45 MSA Merit Awards of Excellence and Distinction.
Parents and students interested in applying for one of the district’s nationally recognized magnet programs may do so beginning in November. Applications will be available on the district’s website (
www.richland2.org
) from November 7 through December 15, 2023.
Richland Two has four elementary magnet centers, 11 schoolwide magnets and 23 school-within-a-school magnets.
