Faculty Focus: Si Se Puede (Yes You Can)

Richland Two District Administrator Nathan O'Neill and Conder Elementary Fourth-Grade Teacher Lache Williams with the district’s Si Se Puede (Yes You Can) team explained the focus of the program and shared experiences from their recent participation in Teach to Lead’s Teacher Leadership Summit in Baltimore, Maryland. The team developed Si Se Puede to support academic achievement for Latino students by helping staff members develop key skills and by empowering families. The team developed the program through R2 Innovates, which supports innovators in the Richland Two who want to put an idea in action to benefit Richland Two students.

  

Report: Strategic Planning
Dr. Keith Shaw shared information on a potential process for updating the district’s strategic plan. State law requires school districts to develop a Strategic Plan every five years. The 2016–2017 school year will be the final year of the current five-year strategic plan. This update is part of the district’s continuous improvement efforts to ensure that resources and strategies are aligned with our district's mission and beliefs.

Report: Project CARE

Project CARE Coalition Director Javana Lovett updates the board on the work of the coalition that focuses on creating conditions that empower families, schools and communities to reduce substance abuse and other high risk behaviors. The Project CARE Coalition is funded by a $625,000, five-year grant from the Drug-Free Communities Support Program in Washington, D.C.

Report: Charter Schools Handbook Updates

Dr. James Ann Sheley, Chief Planning and Initiatives Officer, presented the updated handbook that provides expectations, support and direction to charter schools sponsored by the Richland School District Two Board of Trustees. Some of the changes to the handbook stem from changes to the State Charter School Law.
