MORE MASTER TEACHERS IDENTIFIED FOR FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM
MORE MASTER TEACHERS IDENTIFIED FOR FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM
7/1/2021
More Richland Two teachers have qualified to become South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teachers. Of the 27 educators selected for the second cohort of teachers in the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program, three are from Richland Two. State Treasurer Curtis Loftis launched this new statewide initiative last year. It is designed to increase the number of teachers incorporating personal finance education into their classrooms. The Richland Two teachers in this second group are:
Robin Jones, Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2) Student Innovation Center
Joy Walker, Kelly Mill Med Pro Middle School
Warren Wise, Kelly Mill Med Pro Middle School
Last year, Richland Two had six educators in the first cohort of master teachers: Stephen Bidwell, MED @ Bridge Creek Elementary School; Pam Bruney, Kelly Mill Med Pro Middle School; Andrea Dickey, Blythewood Academy; Dr. Harmonica Hart, Summit Parkway Middle School; Kristine Lyon, Ridge View High School and Kurt Stiglbauer, Ridge View High School. Five of them completed their Silver certification this year and are pursuing Gold status.
This program provides financial incentives to K-12 teachers who are experts in the area of financial literacy and have a desire to teach professional development workshops to other educators in their schools and districts. These teachers have access to specialized training and financial literacy curriculum resources.
All applicants for the program had to pass the W!SE Personal Finance Certification Test for Educators. W!SE is a nationally recognized credential, certifying that educators demonstrate the proficiency required to teach personal finance. The program is sponsored by Future Scholar, South Carolina’s 529 College Savings Plan, and in partnership with SC Economics.
