LAKE CAROLINA STUDENT DATA COORDINATOR WINS OFFICE PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR AWARD
LAKE CAROLINA STUDENT DATA COORDINATOR WINS OFFICE PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR AWARD
2/10/2021
Twenty-nine years ago, Marybeth Gawrys took a job in Richland School District Two and has loved every aspect of her work ever since. At the South Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals (SCAEOP) conference last weekend, Gawrys was recognized as the SCAEOP Betty Blanton Educational Office Professional of the Year.
She has had the privilege of serving in various capacities and assisting with the openings of three new schools. Gawrys is currently the Student Data Coordinator and Registrar at Lake Carolina Elementary School - Upper Campus. Her responsibilities include maintaining student records in PowerSchool, registering new students, helping to cover the receptionist desk and helping out in any other way that is needed. Gawrys has filled a long list of positions in Richland Two that includes being a health room assistant, media assistant, receptionist, teaching assistant and attendance secretary.
Gawrys said, “I am so humbled and honored to have been chosen as the Richland County and South Carolina Office Professional of the Year for 2020-2021. It is my goal to encourage and inspire others to join the local, state and national chapters of their professional organizations so that they are continuously learning and growing in their professions.”
Jeff Williams, principal at Lake Carolina Elementary Upper Campus, says Gawrys has a special way of bringing out a smile in each student. “Anyone who works with Mrs. Gawrys can confirm her professional approach. She has always been one of the first people our students see each day when they arrive on campus. On any given day you can find her checking on a student who needs a little extra love or meeting one of our special education students as they get off the bus. They love her attention and support,” Williams said.
Gawrys is a member of the Richland County Association of Educational Office Professionals, South Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals and the National Association of Educational Office Professionals. She earned the distinction of becoming a Certified Educational Office Employee in 2016.
