Richland Two January 9, 2018 School Board Meeting Highlights
At 6 p.m. after calling the meeting to order, the Richland Two Board of Trustees convened in executive session to discuss student expulsion and appeals; student admission requests into the district’s Adult Education program; student readmission requests; employment recommendations; and employment releases and in-district transfers. At 7 p.m., the Board reconvened in public session.
Signing of Ethical Principles
In honor of School Board Recognition Month, the board signed the Ethical Principles. This symbolic gesture by the Board publicly says they will uphold these effective governance principles.
Special Recognitions
Students and staff were recognized for their achievements. See the list at the end of this release for more information.
Faculty Focus
CAT (Carolina Alliance for Technology) District Grant Coordinator and Lead Counselor Zipporah Little shared highlights from the grant's implementation at Ridge View High Schools and Westwood High School. A student from each school shared individual success stories.

The Board approved motions related to interim principal assignment; student admission requests into the District's Adult Education Program; student readmission requests; and student expulsions and appeals.

Discipline Report
Cleveland Smith, chief administrative services officer, presented a report on the status of
rethinking discipline in the district.
Special Recognitions
Damian Daley from Ridge View High School
was selected to play in the 2017 S.C. Shrine Bowl.
Dermonti Romey from Westwood High School
was selected to play in the 2017 North South football game.
Spring Valley High School teacher MaryAnn Sansonetti Wood
has been named an American Geographical Society’s Geography Teacher Fellow.
Bridge Creek Elementary and Dent Middle School
received the 2017 Let’s Move! Active Schools National Award.
The W.R. Rogers Adult Education Center
was selected to be part of the Adult Education Professional Development and Technical Assistance Network by the S.C. Department of Education.
Spring Valley High School, Kelly Mill Middle, Rice Creek Elementary, Center for Inquiry and the District Office
were recognized by Palmetto Health Foundation for outstanding fundraising efforts for Palmetto Health’s Walk for Life to fight breast cancer.
The Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2)
is the recipient of the Carolinas Green Award as well as an Honor Award. M.B. Kahn Construction Company Vice President Hayley Bowers presented the award.
Dentsville Class of 1965 alumni and the Richland County Conservation Commission
were recognized for their work to secure an historical marker for Dentsville School.
Richland Two School Board Members, Dr. Monica Elkins-Johnson and Jamie Shadd,
were elected to the S.C. Caucus of Black School Board Members. Dr. Elkins-Johnson will serve as regional director for the Midlands area and Mr. Shadd will serve as secretary.
