Jan. 23 Board Meeting Highlights

At 6 p.m. after calling the meeting to order, the Richland Two Board of Trustees convened in executive session to discuss student expulsion and appeals; employment recommendations; and employment releases and in-district transfers. At 7 p.m., the Board reconvened in public session.
 
Student Focus
Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary Principal Karen Beaman and students shared a video illustrating how the school uses the district’s Four Squares as a framework for success.
  
Voting Items
Consent Agenda
The Board approved the Consent Agenda that included the minutes from the Jan. 9 board meeting, and employment recommendations, releases and in-district transfers/promotions.
 
Executive Session Items
The Board approved motions related to student expulsions and appeals.
 
Policy Revisions
The Board approved changes to policies: IC (School Year) and KDB (Public Right to Know).
 
Reports
Proposal: Policy Revisions
Dr. Marshalynn Franklin, assistant superintendent, presented changes to policies for first reading: IHAM (Health Education), IHAQ (Career/Transition to Work Education, and JLD (School Counseling).
 
Proposal: 2018-2019 School Calendar
Assistant Superintendent Keith Price presented the proposed 2018-2019 School Calendar for first reading.
 
Report: ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act)
Dr. John Arnold, director of accountability, presented a report on the state’s accountability plan required by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (EESA).
           
Report: Charter School Annual Report
Dr. Perry Mills Sr., principal of the Richland Two Charter High School, presented the board with the school’s 2016-2017 Annual Report.

Dr. Harry Miley, the district’s chief financial officer, presented the board with the 2018-2019 budget timeline.
