JANUARY ROOKIE TEACHER OF THE BLOCK LIVING HER PURPOSE
JANUARY ROOKIE TEACHER OF THE BLOCK LIVING HER PURPOSE
1/25/2023
Baylee Morrow, the January Rookie Teacher of the Block, knows she has chosen the right profession. Her classroom of first grade students at Killian Elementary STEAM Leaders Magnet School remind her of that every day.
“This recognition is a positive reminder that I am doing what I am meant to be doing. I chose to become a teacher for the students. I want to give them a positive experience with school and show them that they are important, valued, loved, and that their success matters,” said Morrow.
“This profession is not for the weak. Teachers have to monitor and adjust all day long. We do not just teach academics, but also life lessons daily. It feels amazing to be recognized for my hard work, as all teachers should be.”
The administration team at Killian nominated her for the award. Principal Stacey Franklin says Morrow consistently provides an innovative learning environment where students acquire knowledge and skills through quality instruction and engaging experiences.
“She assists her students in developing positive character traits by always remaining positive and encouraging her students to do their personal best. She highlights the positive behaviors that students demonstrate and creates a very positive and inclusive learning environment where all students are valued and respected,” said Franklin.
District partner, H&R Block, sponsors this award. Each month a new teacher is chosen, and then an overall winner is selected as Rookie Teacher of the Year. Winners receive a plaque to hang outside their door, a nameplate for the door, discounted tax preparation from H&R Block, a unique trophy designed by the 3D printing class at the Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2) Student Innovation Center, and a bag of Richland Two gifts from Human Resources.
Morrow is a graduate of Columbia College. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
Killian Elementary STEAM Leaders Magnet School is located at 2621 Clemson Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
