HOLIDAY GIVING TOTALS
HOLIDAY GIVING TOTALS
12/30/2019
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The holidays were brighter for many in the Midlands, thanks to the hard work of Richland Two high school students. Continuing the annual tradition, each of the district’s five high schools, in cooperation with our elementary and middle schools, successfully hosted student-led, school-wide service projects designed to encourage students to explore, understand and address needs within the community.
Combined the schools donated 50 stockings, 976 toiletry items, 52 bikes, 124 pints of blood, 1,211 pairs of socks, 20,000 packaged meals, 27,058 food items and $9,718 to various community organizations. Student organizations also adopted 130 families. In addition to the high school community service campaigns, employees and students across Richland Two decorated 48 "Tiny Trees" that were donated to Prisma Health Children's Hospital.
Over the years, these school-wide service projects have grown in ambition and adapted to the ever-changing needs of the community. Many have been expanded into year-long drives that involve not only goods but community service, too.
