Healthy comfort food on the menu for cooking competition
Healthy comfort food on the menu for cooking competition
Richland Two’s Food Services partner, Sodexo, will host its Seventh annual Future Chefs cooking competition on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at R2i2 from 4-6:30 p.m.
Elementary students will whip up tasty dishes following this year’s theme of “Healthy Comfort Food.” For the first time, competitors will also be required to incorporate a bonus ingredient such as whole grain pasta, whole grain bread, brown rice, low-fat cheese, eggs, lean ground beef, turkey, potatoes or mushrooms. During the competition, students will be paired with a café employee who will assist and give pointers. A panel of three judges will evaluate the dishes for: taste, originality, ease of preparation, healthiness, kid-appeal and plate presentation.
The winner will be entered in the regional level with the hopes of continuing on to become the National Future Chef winner.
The Future Chefs program is one of the many ways Sodexo shares its health and well-being expertise with the schools it serves.
The district and Sodexo invited the community and media to attend and cheer on students. R2i2 is located at 763 Fashion Drive, in the Village at Sandhill across from Belk.
