District hires new Director of Pupil Services

At a regularly scheduled school board meeting on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, Superintendent Dr. Baron R. Davis recommended and the Richland School District Two Board of Trustees approved Dr. Sheliah Burnette as Director of Pupil Services effective July 1, 2021. She replaces Lottie Chishom who is retiring after giving 46 years of service to Richland Two.

“Ms. Chishom is a rare gem that Richland Two has been fortunate to have for more than four decades. She has done so much to maintain and restore safe, orderly environments in our schools and centers throughout the years. Fortunately, she will continue working with the district on a part-time basis,” said Dr. Davis. “We welcome Dr. Burnette and I am confident she will make invaluable contributions to Richland Two and decisions that are in the best interest of students.”

Dr. Burnette joins the District most recently from Richland School District One, where she served as an assistant principal at A. J. Lewis Greenview Elementary School. She has also been an assistant principal in North Carolina in Durham County and Person County Schools and a principal in Iredell Statesville Schools. Her experience includes several years working as a school counselor and student services coordinator.

As the Director of Pupil Services, Dr. Burnette will plan, direct and oversee student behavior programs, dropout retrieval and prevention, conflict resolution programs, safety planning and other related activities.

Dr. Burnette received a Bachelor of Social Work in social work from Meredith College; a Master of Arts in counseling and Master of Arts in school administration from North Carolina Central University; and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
