Draft Day in Richland Two
Draft Day in Richland Two
5/1/2017
Richland Two students are preparing to declare for the Draft. On Saturday, May 6, male students in grades 5 - 12, will enter Draft Day GPS: Goals, Principles, Service. This basketball-themed mentoring event, taking place at Richland Northeast High School from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will focus on male empowerment and the three core principles of Richland Two's Mentoring Framework: Goal Setting, Life Principles, and Service to the Community. Speakers and activities will focus on how these principles encourage academic success. High school mentors will conduct character-building activities while working alongside community leaders to teach basketball skill and drill sessions.
“We’re playing man-to-man and zone defenses to reach and empower young males to be strong, well-rounded players offensively who can rebound and persevere from anything the game of life throws their way,” said Dr. O’Tasha Morgan, District Lead School Counselor.
Several sponsors are making this event possible, including Appreciation Insurance, Michael Taylor Agency, Inc., Academy Sports & Outdoors, B.E.A.S.T. Total Athlete Training, Hoop City Academy, HOOP-OLOGY Basketball Camp, Hot 103.9, CiCi's Pizza, Bojangles’, Logo Screen Printing, Need-A-Lift Transportation Services, and Richland Two Institute of Innovation.
Last November, Richland Two hosted more than 500 girls for the first annual Girls and Pearls mentoring initiative.
