DR. TIM SWICK ANNOUNCED AS CSTA EQUITY FELLOW
DR. TIM SWICK ANNOUNCED AS CSTA EQUITY FELLOW
10/7/2022
Dr. Tim Swick has been selected as a 2022-23 Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) Equity Fellow. Since becoming the lead teacher of the Computer Science Immersion School at Sandlapper Elementary in 2019, Dr. Swick has coordinated the development of a school-wide integrated computer science curriculum. The curriculum blends the use of robotics, block-based coding, and Minecraft Education with different grade-level content and subject areas. Earlier this year, Magnet Schools of America recognized Sandlapper as the 2022 Top New and Emerging Magnet School in the nation.
The CSTA Equity Fellowship is a year-long program that will provide leadership development opportunities to fellows and identify opportunities for the group to develop ongoing, peer-to-peer professional learning experience focused on addressing issues of equity in the computer science classrooms.
Each CSTA Equity Fellow will receive professional learning with premier leaders in the field, including in-person summits and ongoing virtual meetings throughout the year. They will also receive support from CSTA staff, expert partners, and dedicated resources to implement their project, as well as recognition across CSTA’s communications channels and at the CSTA 2023 Annual Conference.
Dr. Swick is a National Board Certified Teacher, and holds a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina with a focus on Educational Technology and Innovative Learning Design. His dissertation studied the impact of Computational Thinking in a school Makerspace. He was a winner of the 2022 CSTA/Infosys Foundation USA CS Teaching Excellence Awards, and is a member of the 2022 class of SC ASCD Emerging Leaders.
