DEC. 21–22 DESIGNATED AS ELEARNING DAYS

12/4/2020

  • Richland School District Two is designating Monday, Dec. 21 and Tuesday, Dec. 22 as eLearning days. This means all students will participate in eLearning following their school’s current bell schedule.
  • Winter Break begins on Wednesday, Dec. 23.
  • Classes start back on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, following Phase 2 operations:
  • Students participating in classroom communities in-person instruction at elementary schools prior to Dec. 21 will return to in-person instruction at the schools on Jan. 4.
  • Students participating in hybrid in-person instruction at middle and high schools prior to Dec. 21 will return to in-person instruction on their designated days during the week of Jan. 4.
  • Students participating in eLearning prior to Dec. 21 will remain in eLearning on Jan. 4.

WHY IS THE DISTRICT MAKING THIS CHANGE FOR DEC. 21–22?

As with the Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break presents challenges to the contact tracing process and notifying close contacts. The contact tracing process is complicated and time consuming. These procedures are based on the guidance provided to schools from S.C. DHEC. Click here to review the S.C. DHEC information. Close contact is determined through the case investigation process and is dependent upon each situation. A close contact is someone who has spent a total of 15 minutes or more over the course of a day (less than 6 feet apart) with someone who tests positive for the virus.

The eLearning days also help with limiting the spread of COVID-19 during the holiday season by providing the opportunity to get tested and to limit exposure before traveling and being with family during the holiday season.
