CLASS OF 2020 EARNS $150.3 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS
CLASS OF 2020 EARNS $150.3 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS
6/10/2020
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The 2019-2020 school year will definitely go down in the books as one to remember. So it makes sense that graduation was different too. For the first time since the opening of Blythewood High School, Richland Two held outdoor commencement ceremonies. The weather cooperated, and 1929 students bound for college, the military and work force, crossed the stage at Harry Parone Stadium. In all, the class of 2020 earned $150,347,355 in scholarship offers.
One by one, speakers highlighted the resilience and creativity this year’s class has shown as their dreams for their senior year shifted overnight. They rose to the challenge of e- learning and found innovative ways to celebrate each other. “Class of 2020, you have been divinely prepared to lead this world into the purpose in which it was created,” said district Superintendent Dr. Baron Davis.
The graduating class of 2019-2020 includes nationally recognized journalists, nationally ranked NJROTC members, the 4A state boys’ basketball champions and a 2020 Presidential Scholar. The district’s livestream of the ceremonies racked up a record 28,387 unique views from around the country and world in places including the United Kingdom, Puerto Rico, Japan, India and Senegal. In contrast, last year’s ceremonies had 2,572 unique views. The ceremonies can be watched anytime at www.richland2.org/livestream.
