Richland Two April 10, 2018 School Board Meeting Highlights

At 5:30 p.m., after calling the meeting to order, the Richland Two Board of Trustees convened in executive session to discuss legal matters; personnel matters; student expulsions; student appeals; employment recommendations; and employment releases and in-district transfers. Public session resumed at 6:30 p.m.

Faculty Focus
Dr. Hope Reed from Blythewood High School shared a new initiative she coordinates called Freshmen Retreat. Freshmen Retreat helps ninth-graders navigate the transition from middle school to high school. Click here to view her presentation.

Special Recognitions
Robert Braswell from Blythewood High School was selected to play in the 2018 Carolinas Classic All-Star Basketball Game. Click here to see a photograph of Robert accepting his award at the meeting.

Crystal Smith and Amy Whitfield from Blythewood High School received the Outstanding School Library Program of the Year Award from the S.C. Association of School Librarians. Click here to see a photograph from the meeting.

Mac Bennett received Richland Two’s Community Partnership Recognition for being named the 2017 Humanitarian of the Year Award by the United Way of the Midlands.

Consent Agenda — The Board approved the Consent Agenda that included the minutes from the meeting on March 27, and employment recommendations, releases and in-district transfers/promotions.

Executive Session Items — The Board approved motions related to student expulsions and student appeals.

Policy Revisions — The Board approved changes to Policies GCK (Professional Staff Assignments and Transfers) and GDJ (Support Staff Assignments and Transfers)

Legislative Update — Dr. Harry Miley, Richland Two’s chief financial officer provided an update on recent state legislative activities related to public education. Click here to watch.

Policy Revisions — The Board received proposed changes to Board Policies DN (School Properties Disposition), DC (Taxing and Borrowing), DCA (Post Issuance Tax Exempt Bond Compliance) and DGA (Authorized Signatures).
