ANOTHER RICHLAND TWO SCHOOL RECEIVES CERTIFICATION AS A NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION MAGNET

8/24/2020

Forest Lake Elementary NASA Explorer School has been named a Nationally Certified Demonstration Magnet School by Magnet Schools of America. Nationally certified magnet schools provide high-quality, innovative educational options to families and students that promote choice, diversity and academic excellence. Forest Lake had to meet rigorous Magnet School Standards of Excellence set by the National Institute for Magnet School Leadership. The school will serve as an innovation laboratory for others to learn best practices in theme-based education.

According to Dr. Kappy Steck, Principal of Forest Lake Elementary, “We are honored to receive this distinction and recognize it represents a collaborative effort between faculty and staff, students, parents, and those in the community who support our school. I am proud of the tireless work of our school community to ensure Forest Lake students receive the best possible education, one that engages the mind, body, and spirit, and helps set us apart as a premier elementary school in Richland District Two.”

Barbara Turner is Director of Magnet Programs for Richland Two. “Our magnet schools continue to excel and provide unique educational opportunities for students. I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication the team at Forest Lake put into obtaining this certification. Even in the midst of a pandemic and unexpected shift to a virtual learning environment, they persevered to the end."

Richland Two is home to 17 nationally certified magnets at 12 schools, eight of which are Demonstration Magnet Schools.
