AMELIA MCKIE ELECTED AS STATE SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION REGION 8 DIRECTOR

Richland Two School Board member Amelia B. McKie has been elected as Region 8 Director of the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA).
 
The association’s annual business meeting was held in December and was held as part of the association’s Legislative Advocacy Conference, included voting delegates from most of the state’s 79 school boards. In addition to the election of association officers, delegates adopted resolutions to guide the association during the 2021 legislative session.
 
McKie was first appointed to the SCSBA Board in 2017 to fill an unexpired term. McKie has served on the Richland Two Board for six years. She has served as Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Secretary of the Richland Two Board of Trustees. She has also served as Chairperson of the Richland Two Diversity and Multicultural Inclusion Committee and as the Board's legislative liaison. She is a long time parent and community volunteer in the district. She has completed Level 6 in the SCSBA Boardmanship Institute, the highest level attainable.
 
McKie’s personal quest and passion for educational equity, parity and equal access drove her to continue her educational advocacy in more formalized roles as well. McKie serves as Immediate Past Chair of the South Carolina School Improvement Council Board of Directors where she has also served as Vice Chairperson and Secretary. She has served as Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of her local School Improvement Councils and was active in her local Parent Teacher Student Organizations.  
 
McKie is a Diversity Leaders Institute Fellow of The Riley Institute; a South Carolina Education Policy Fellow; a graduate of Leadership South Carolina; and FastTrac. She is a member of First Northeast Baptist Church and the Gamma Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is a founding member of the Board of Directors for the Divine Nine Foundation of Columbia, was a founding board member of Friends of Epworth and an advisory board member for Thomas Media Group. She currently serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (guardian ad litem) for Richland County.
 
McKie is a founding partner of a governmental relations and communications/public relations firm servicing municipal, state and private agencies. She advocates for various institutions of higher education throughout South Carolina.
 
McKie, a University of South Carolina alumna, is the proud mom of a recent University of South Carolina alumnus and a Claflin University alumna.  
 
The South Carolina School Boards Association is a non-profit organization serving as a source of information and as a statewide voice for boards governing the state’s 79 school districts.
