ACE Magnet Program

Empowering students to become engaged citizens through government, economics, and service learning.

The Academy for Civic Engagement (ACE) at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary prepares students to become contributing members of our democratic society and responsible citizens of our community and our world. Students build partnerships with local government and businesses as they learn to become responsible citizens. The Academy for Civic Engagement encourages global, active citizenship by giving students opportunities to translate civic education into community engagement.

Strong leadership and citizenship skills;
-
Project based learning to encourage problem-solving, creativity and higher-order thinking skills.
-
Recognizing and understanding diverse perspectives of others
-
Real world simulations
-
Empowering student voice
-
Opportunities to participate in the democratic process
-
Career exploration for all students through community members.

ACE students will become diverse leaders with the knowledge and skills to establish challenging career and educational goals, and the character and commitment to become caring, responsible citizens with a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.

Students enrolling in kindergarten through fifth grade who are active learners and seek to become strong leaders are encouraged to apply. ACE is rigorous, as South Carolina standards are covered at a quicker pace to allow time for government, economics and service learning curriculum. Selection is through random lottery.
