8th Grade Promotion Ceremony Information

Hello 8th Grade Students, Parents and Guardians,

E.L. Wright will be honoring our 8th grade students with Promotion Ceremonies on June 7th and June 8th in our Gymnasium.

Due to COVID-19 protocols to ensure social distancing, we will have five separate ceremonies on these days to accommodate our students and their guests in attendance. Students are assigned to attend a ceremony based on their last name.

Students eligible to attend a Promotion Ceremony will check-in for their ceremony 30 minutes ahead of time behind the Gymnasium. The ceremony dates and times are as follows: 

  • June 7th at 8:00 am for students with the last names beginning with A - Com.

  • June 7th at 10:30 am for students with the last names beginning with Coo - Hard.

  • June 7th at 12:30 pm for students with the last names beginning with Harl - McF.

  • June 8th at 10:30 am for students with the last names beginning with McG - Sc.

  • June 8th at 12:30 pm for students with the last names beginning with Se - Z.


PARTICIPATION ELIGIBILITY 

In order to participate, students must be passing and on track to be academically promoted to high school, and must not have any outstanding debts or fees as of Wednesday, June 2nd.

Students who are not passing as of June 2nd can continue working on make-up work to obtain a passing average for the year, but will not be able to participate in a Promotion Ceremony on June 7th or June 8th.


PROMOTION CEREMONY REHEARSALS

Students eligible to participate in their Promotion Ceremony will take part in a Promotion Ceremony Rehearsal during school hours on Thursday, June 3rd.

Although not required, virtual students wishing to participate in the rehearsal can come according to the schedule below. Students will be organized behind the Gym at the start of each rehearsal. 

  • 11:30-12:00 pm:  8th Grade Promotion Ceremony 1 (A-Com) Rehearsal

  • 12:00-12:30 pm:  8th Grade Promotion Ceremony 2 (Coo-Hard) Rehearsal 

  • 12:30-1:00 pm:    8th Grade Promotion Ceremony 3 (Harl-McF) Rehearsal 

  • 1:00-1:30 pm:      8th Grade Promotion Ceremony 4 (McG-Sc) Rehearsal 

  • 1:30-2:00 pm:      8th Grade Promotion Ceremony 5 (Se-Z) Rehearsal 

Students not attending the rehearsal, but are eligible to participate in their Promotion Ceremony will be directed what to do prior to their ceremony. 


TICKETS

Each participating student will receive two (2) tickets for their guests. There will be no additional tickets available, and lost tickets cannot be replaced.

  • All guests (regardless of age) must have a ticket to enter.

  • Tickets will be distributed to students participating in the Promotion Ceremony Rehearsals during school hours on Thursday, June 3rd.

For students not present at school on June 3rd for the rehearsal, but who are eligible to participate in a Promotion Ceremony, tickets can be picked up at the following times:

  • Thursday, June 3rd from 4:00-6:00 pm outside of the Main Office

  • Friday, June 4th from 2:00-5:00 pm during the Virtual Student Textbook Drop-off in the Bus Loop


DRESS CODE

Students are asked to dress up for their Promotion Ceremony. Student dress should be in accordance with the Richland Two School District Dress Code. Furthermore, students should not wear casual clothing such as shorts, jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, flip flops, etc.


STREAMING THE CEREMONY

We plan to live stream the event for those that cannot attend in-person and we will post videos of each ceremony. Please check the school website for streaming information on the day of the ceremony for the live stream. Videos of each ceremony will be posted on the school website within 24 hours of the event.


PARKING

Limited parking will be available on the days of the Promotion Ceremonies in our parking lot in the front of the school on the corner of Windsor Lake Blvd. and Alpine Road, and also at Windsor United Methodist Church across from E.L. Wright on Windsor Lake Blvd. Please do not park on the Car Loop Road behind the school due to construction or in the parking lot of the business center across from the school on Alpine Road. 


AFTER THE CEREMONY

When each ceremony has ended, we ask guests to exit the gymnasium and leave the campus promptly in order for our staff to clean and sanitize the gymnasium as well as to make parking available for the guests of the next ceremony.
