Health Services
Health services at E. L. Wright Middle School are implemented with the goal of enhancing the educational process of the students by modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning and by promoting an optimal level of wellness for both students and staff. This goal is implemented in a variety of ways.
The Health Room at E. L. Wright Middle School is staffed by a full-time registered nurse and a Health Room assistant, who see students for a variety of health complaints and/or chronic conditions and provide care as needed. The staff administers prescription medication such as Ritalin, Adderall, and Insulin as well as many over-the-counter medications. Care is provided to help limit the amount of time spent out of class.
Student wellness activities include providing DHEC-recommended health screening for all students for all recommended grades. Participation in Career Day is on an as-needed basis. Consultation for staff and/or student concerns is ongoing.
Health Room personnel also provide the E. L. Wright staff with various wellness activities, including influenza vaccines during flu season and HealthWorks Job Site screenings. In addition, high-risk individuals can receive hepatitis B vaccines and a mammogram van comes yearly to screen many of the female staff.
