Catawba Trail Elementary's Denise Barth named 2013 Richland County Conservation Principal of the Year
Denise Barth, principal of Catawba Trail Elementary School, has been named Richland County’s 2013 Conservation Principal of the Year by the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District (RSWCD). The annual award recognizes administrators who exhibit an outstanding commitment to conservation education. Mrs. Barth will be recognized at the RSWCD’s Conservation Banquet in May.
With Ms. Barth’s leadership and support, Catawba Trail’s campus has grown to include a nature trail, wildlife garden, re-use and recycle programs, composters and a staffed science lab where students raise chicks, ducks, earthworms and trout. Ms. Barth provides motivation, encouragement and funding for conservation education initiatives and trouble-shoots obstacles in order to allow teachers to develop engaging learning. The school is also home to Vikki Pasco, who was named 2012 Teacher of the Year by the South Carolina Association of Conservation Districts.
“Ms. Barth is truly a principal who embraces conservation,” said Ms. Pasco.
