Hi! I'm Christine Harding, the new music teacher at CFI. I have been teaching elementary music since 2000, in both Georgia & South Carolina. My primary instrument has been oboe over the years. My music degree is from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, in Music Production & Engineering. Over the years I was an executive director of a regional opera company, the band & string manager at a music store, and even a recording engineer for cds and commercials in Atlanta. In my big family, we have 22 people who play an instrument, and 13 people who have been or are a certified music teacher. My dad is a saxophone player who has played Broadway musicals for over 60 years. My sister is principal flute with the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra. She also runs our family music store, Carere Music, which specializes in band and orchestral instruments.
I have a big immediate family...my husband, Tayloe, is Dean of the School of Music at the University of South Carolina. Stepson Chase, just graduated from Carolina in both business and music, and was the drum major (the person who throws the baton on the field) for the Carolina Band. Daughter, Mimi is a nationally recognized flutist, also studying music at Carolina. Grace is at Spring Valley HS, spending most of her time singing & dancing in the choirs & drama classes. My stepgirls are both married and have blessed us with 3 grandchildren so far. We are all a tight group even if we don't see each other all the time.
For fun... Photography! I stick my camera in everybody's face, and will post those pictures online, so you better smile. Ancestry.com has recently shown me my family back to Germany in 1660. My pizza crust is almost perfect, having started with my Uncle Tony's pizzeria recipe. The best part of my new job is that it's part-time, which allows me to travel more with my husband, who we call Magellan.
How does music affect your life?

CFI Media Center Website

I grew up in Charleston, SC and came to our state’s capital to attend Columbia College.  I graduated their Honors Program with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and a minor in Computer Science.  Upon graduation, I began work at Policy Management Systems Corporation as a software developer where I met my husband of 25 years, Clark.  Upon starting our family, I left the workforce to raise our two beautiful children, Jillian and Logan.  When we were fortunate enough to get into Center for Inquiry for their elementary education, I knew this was the place for me.  I’ve served in lots of positions around CFI including homeroom Mom, PTP president, Kindergarten Instructional Assistant and now Technology Teacher and Librarian. I love all things technology related and reading so it truly is my dream job.

Hi, I'm Shaphonya Deane, the new PE teacher at CFI. I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Journalism from Georgia State University. While in college, I had the opportunity to work for the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons entertainment teams. Also, I was a member of the Women's Intramural basketball team and worked for several sports marketing agencies. After graduating and marrying my sweetheart, I left the USA and began a career in education as a long term substitute in Kaiserslautern, Germany in 2005. Later, I moved to San Antonio, TX where I entered an alternative certification program, A+ Texas Teachers, to become a certified teacher. While living in Texas, I completed a dual-concentration Master's of Education degree in Educational Leadership and C & I in Reading. I've had the opportunity to serve students in elementary, middle, high school and as an Adjunct Instructor at Palo Alto College in San Antonio, TX. I recently received the honor of "Teacher of the Year" for the 2016/2017 school year at my previous educational institution and I am honored to bring my experience and passion to CFI.

I've moved several times in the last 13.5 years with my husband who serves in the ARMY.  We have two amazingly active kids, Moriah and Joshua. Their two personalities are a true mixture of my husband and I. Moriah plays basketball and loves arts and crafts. Joshua loves to dance and enjoys puzzles and LEGOS.

Being married to a Master Fitness Trainer in the ARMY has kept our family on the move. (No pun intended.) We enjoy trail rides on our bikes, taking weekend trips, serving in our church and trying new restaurants in the city. Our latest adventure was going to iFly for an unforgettable experience of indoor skydiving. Epic Fun!!! In my spare time, I enjoy vlogging for our family's YouTube channel, making up silly songs with the kids, reading a memoir while eating Talenti's Caramel Cookie Crunch Gelato, and planning our next weekend getaway.

I am proud to not only be apart of CFI family but also I'm loving the southern hospitality in Columbia, South Carolina.

Hi there! I’m Becky Watkins, visual arts teacher at the Center for Inquiry. I began my teaching career in 1988 with the Charleston County School District. I am also a certified classroom teacher, as well as National Board Certified. I have taught overseas, and in a few different states, enjoying travel and relocation due to my husband’s career. My family has called South Carolina home for the past 15 years, and this is my 13th year teaching at the Center for Inquiry.
My family; husband Kent, and son, Seth (17 yrs.), have settled just east of Camden on a small farm. We keep a small flock of laying hens and ducks, along with our pet dogs and horses. Farm living runs through my veins and keeps me busy when I am not in the classroom. In addition to chores, my hobbies include horseback riding, gardening, sewing, cooking and painting.
