Q: Can I see my child’s grades online?
A: PowerSchool Parent Portal gives parents and students access to real-time information including attendance, grades and detailed assignment descriptions, school bulletins, even personal messages from the teacher. Everyone stays connected: students stay on top of assignments, parents are able to participate more fully in their student's progress, and teachers can use their gradebook to make decisions on what information they want to share with parents and students. Parents can opt to receive email notifications and pay school fees. Log in here.

Q: Which immunizations are required to enroll my child in school?
A: Vaccines required for school and daycare attendance are set by state law. Please visit the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control’s website for a complete list. Visit our Student Health page for information for medication permission forms, a nurse listing by school, and other important information.

Q: Do I need district approval to pass out flyers at a school?
A; Yes. Richland School District Two values the support we receive from our community partners who offer activities, services and enrichment opportunities that support the learning taking place in our schools. For that reason, we make information about these community activities, services and enrichment opportunities available to families, provided that the flyer from the partnering organization meets our standards.

Q: Where can I find the school year calendar?

Q: What are the start & dismissal times for schools?
A: The Center for Child Development classes start at ​7:45 a.m.​ and dismiss at 2:15 p.m. Elementary schools and centers start at 8 a.m. and dismiss between 2:45-2:55 p.m. Exception: Lake Carolina Upper starts at 8:10 a.m. Students at elementary schools and magnet centers will be marked tardy 10 minutes after start time.  ​

Middle schools start at 7:30 a.m. and dismiss at 2:25 p.m.

High schools start between 8:35-8:40 a.m. and dismiss between 3:37-3:45 p.m. To see what time your child’s school dismisses please visit the district’s website.

Q: What are the dismissal times on half-days?
A: Elementary schools dismiss at 11:30 a.m. Middle schools dismiss at 10:34 a.m. High schools schools dismiss at 12:30 p.m. Alternative schools begin between 8:20-8:25 a.m. and dismiss at 3:15 p.m.

Q: My realtor mentioned the Choice program as a good reason to buy in this district. What is it?
A: Although our students are assigned to schools based on their residential address, they may apply to a magnet school, a school with a magnet program or another school within the district through the Choice program. Q: I’m interested in pursuing my high school diploma/GED. Where do I start?
A: The W.R. Rogers Center for Adult, Continuing and Technology Education offers GED as well as a number of community education courses. Please visit the W.R. Rogers Center website for more information.

Q: How do I get a copy of my diploma?
A: Please contact the S.C. Department of Education’s Duplicate GED, Transcript and Diploma Office at 803.734.8347.

Q: I no longer attend and/or have graduated from a Richland Two school. How do I get a copy of my high school transcript?
A: The district uses Scriborder.com to manage student records requests. Please click the following link to request records https://rsdtwosc.scriborder.com/

Q: English is not my or my child’s first language. Where can I find help for non- or limited- English speakers?
A: ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) provides a safe haven and nurturing environment for Richland Two’s growing population of linguistically and culturally diverse students. ESOL creates a learning environment that encourages student pride in cultural heritage and provides the cognitive and affective support to help them become contributing members of society. This program, beginning in primary school and continuing through high school, provides each non-English or limited-English proficient student the opportunity to be successful in academic areas and to develop English listening, speaking, reading and writing proficiency. Q: Where do I apply to work in Richland Two?
A: With the exception of Sodexo (food services), custodial services, and substitute teaching positions, all applications to work in Richland Two must be made online via Applitrack, the district’s employment portal. Go there to see vacancies and apply.

Q: How do I become a substitute teacher in Richland Two?
A: Substitute teachers help maintain our students' academic progress because they are committed to quality teaching and learning. In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, they are making a difference in our schools. Read about exciting benefits and apply on our Substitute Teaching page.

Q: I want to work in food services. Where do I apply?
A: Richland Two has partnered with Sodexo School Services to provide food services to our schools and centers. To see Food Services vacancies please visit the Sodexo online job portal at sodexo.balancetrak.com and enter 2015-03138 in the search box.

Q: I want to work in custodial services. Where do I apply?
A: Prospective employees for Service Solutions (Custodial) are encouraged to call 803.736.3228 and leave a message to express interest in employment. They can also visit the office at 2711 Alpine Road, Suite 250, Columbia, SC 29223. Please call the office before visiting to ensure personnel is there to assist you.

Q: We just moved to the area. How do I find out which school my child is zoned for?
A: Our school attendance zone maps are online. Enter your address into our School Zone Locator to find your zoned school.

Q: How do I enroll my child in school?
A: The Registrar’s Office coordinates the online enrollment process. Visit our New Student Enrollment page to begin the enrollment process.

Q: When is graduation?
A: High school graduations will be held June 1-2, 2016 at the Colonial Life Arena located at 801 Lincoln Street in Columbia, SC. Find more information including the link to the streaming events on our Graduation Information page.

Q: My child is graduating from high school this year. Are are there district and community scholarships she should apply for?
A: The Student Counseling Department at each of our five high schools maintains a College and Career Center staffed with professionals to help your student chart her post-high school path. The Richland Two Education Foundation also funds several scholarships. Following are links to the College and Career centers and district and community scholarships.

Q: Facility Rental
A: The District has moved to a new online facility use reservation system called SchoolDude. Interested parties will need to apply to become a CommunityUser. Click on the CommunityUser link and follow the instructions in the upper right hand corner. Once you become a community user, you may apply to use our facilities. Requests must be made at least 10 days prior to the event. For more information click here.

Q: My family is moving to the district. My spouse is active military.  Where do I find information for military families?
A: Nearly 13 percent of the district’s more than 27,000 students are military connected, with either a parent/guardian serving actively in the armed forces or working for the military. For information about getting enrolled, special services, links to the Fort Jackson MWR website and Military Families Pinterest board visit our Military Family Resources page. Once enrolled, please speak to the guidance department about programs and services offered specifically to military children.

Q: What is the district’s policy on bullying?
A: The district has a Zero Tolerance Policy on bullying. takes bullying seriously and strives to provide a safe, positive environment for each of its more than 27,000 students. If you suspect your child is being bullied, please contact the student's teacher. Reports can also be made 24 hours a day through the Safe School line, 803.736.8756. Richland Two has a Zero Tolerance Policy regarding bullying. On our Bullying web page you will find details about this policy as well as tips to help identify if your child is being bullied or is bullying others.  

Q: How does the district decide to delay school start times, dismiss early or cancel school?
A: The decision to close or postpone school is taken very seriously and is made with collaborative input from state and local safety officials. Read more about how we make the decision and see the make up days for the current school year on our School Closings/Delayed Starts/Early Dismissals page.

Q: R2i2
A: Richland Two's Institute of Innovation (R2i2) is an educational entity unlike any other. Creative thought, analysis of real-world challenges to create new solutions, and working side-by-side with business professionals are just a few of the features that make R2i2 unique.

Juniors and seniors from any of Richland Two's five high schools will be eligible to participate in programming at R2i2, opening its doors officially in August 2016.  With the school’s initial focus areas of Advanced Engineering, Advanced IT, Advanced Hospitality Arts, Supply Chain Logistics, Advanced Manufacturing, and Managerial Business, students will be able to develop a keen sense of what it takes to succeed in college, life, and the business world all while learning to be innovators who will shape our future. Q: Why do I have to sign in at the Lobby Guard when I visit schools?
A: The safety of our students is our number one priority. Lobby Guard is a security system in our schools and district office that flags anyone with a sex offender record. All visitors to schools are required to check in using the system.  

Q: Is there a School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to my child’s school?  
A: Richland Two contracts with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department to provide SROs to schools. Find contact information for them here.

Q: How do I report a safety concern?
A: You can always bring concerns to the attention of school or building administrators. Reports can also be made 24 hours a day through the Safe School line, 803.736.8756.

Q: When does the Richland Two School Board meet?
A: The School Board meets twice monthly on the second and fourth Tuesdays. Special meetings, work sessions and hearings are held when necessary. The public is always welcomed and encouraged to attend the board meetings. Dates are subject to change. See a current list of meeting dates here.

Q: When I registered my child, the school registrar mentioned the district has a 1:1 Computing Initiative. What is that?
A: In a 1:1 teaching and learning environment, each student is provided access to a personal, mobile computing device. Richland Two’s name for the 1:1 computing initiative is 1TWO1. Read about the planning and implementation process here.

Q: Who do talk to about my child having trouble with his school-issued device?
A: Please report the problem to the school. Each school has a process for handling technology issues.

Q: Is the district website available in other languages?
A: Yes. The official language used for the content of the Richland School District Two website is English. A free translation service provided by Google is available by selecting a language from this drop down menu on any page of the district website.

Q: I want to volunteer my time. Where do I start?
A: The daily operations of Richland Two schools and centers are enriched by the time and dedication of thousands of volunteers. Parents, grandparents, retirees, military personnel, business professionals, college students and other community members are an integral part of this school district's success. You should first contact the school(s) where you’re interested volunteering. Next, find information about the different categories of volunteer services and start the background check process here.

Q: I am employee, and I have a complaint and/or grievance. What do I do now?
A: The board encourages employees to discuss their concerns or complaints informally with their supervisors. Often, the cause of a problem or concern is merely a misunderstanding among the individuals involved. If, at any time, an employee feels that a formal mechanism for raising his/her concern or problem is needed, s/he should follow the procedure explained in Policy AR GBK-R. This information can be found on page 19 of the Richland School District Two Employee Handbook or online here.
