Welcome to Spring Valley

  • Dr. Glenda George, Assistant Principal, selected as High School Assistant Principal of the Year for South Carolina by SCASA. 
  • Recognized by the Kauffman Foundation as one of ten high schools in the nation experiencing consistent student success at a high level in science, math and technology competitions.
  • SV has nine students who are National Merit Semi-Finalists: Shivani Agarwal, Rachel Arling, Trevor Auman, Amanda Drake, Mack Montgomery, Justin Murphy, Christopher Pasco, Harry Richman and Taylor Wells. Four National Achievement Semifnialists:  Gordon Alexander, Dominique Johnson, Terrica Payton and Danielle Wilson.  Also, seven National Merit Commended Students:  Erin Bower, Valentin Lazar, Sean McCormick, Ryan Moran, Vladimir Plotkin, Joshua Smith and Ali Yazdi.
  • HSAP test results - 86.4% pass rate for both tests on their first attempt,  92.9% students passed ELA on the first attempt for all grades, and 90.1% students passed math on the first attempt for all grades.
  • May, 2008 AP Test results - 251 Spring Valley students (the highest number ever) had an 86% pass rate.  550 exams were taken with an average score per test of 3.77 (the highest in the last 3 years).
  • Harry Richman scored a perfect 36 on the ACT. Harry also scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT. Trevor Auman scored a perfect 36 on the ACT and a perfect 800 on the critical reading and writing sections of the SAT.  Vladimir Plotkin, Taylor Niehaus and Shivani Agarwal scored perfect 800's on the Math section of the SAT. Rachel Arling scored a perfect 800 on the writing seciton of the SAT.
  • AFJROTC Drill Team wins the 2008 U.S. VFW National Drill Championship.  The team won Overall Championship, All-Girls Junior National Championship and the Special Judges Award in addition to 17 Gold Medals, 17 Silver Medals and 8 Bronze Medals.
  • Spring Valley was recognized by the Siemens Foundation and the College Board  as one of the top 50 high schools in the United States based on "Spring Valley's commitment to providing its students opportunities to explore the AP Program and its staff's dedication to student success."  Spring Valley was named the Siemens AP School of the Year for South Carolina.
  • Boys Soccer Team receives NUMBER ONE in 2007 ranking by NSCCA/Adidas National Rankings.
  • HOSA Creative Problem Solving Team placed 1st at SC State Leadership Conference.  At the HOSA National Leadership Conference in Dallas the team went on to place 5th in the nation.
  • Spring Valley received an IBM Community Equipment Grant valued at $1,915, for use in the Math Department
  • AFJROTC Cadets Eron Fayson and Marcus Lara placed first nationally in the Masters Level Dual Exhibition (Fancy) Armed Event.  Additionally, Fayson won 2nd place in the Solo Exhibition (Fancy) Individual Armed Event and Lara won 5th Place in the same event, during the National High School Drill Team Championship.
  • Recently recognized by Newsweek Magazine  for being among the top 4% of high schools nationally 
  • Palmetto Gold Award recipient for five years 
  • Red Carpet Award recipient  
  • 37 National Board Certified Teachers 
  • 22 Athletic State Championships/16 All-American Athletes/Six played or playing in the NFL/2-Time Olympic Gold Medalist in Track 
  • 9 Presidential Scholars 
  • 48 National Merit Finalists/16 National Merit Achievement Finalists in the last decade 
  • $32,751,925 total scholarships awarded to graduates of the class of 2008.  39 Palmetto Fellows, 5 Byrd Scholars, 144 Life Scholarships and 69 Hope Scholarships

Assistant Principal of the Year by SCASA

Spring Valley is proud to announce that Dr. Glenda George, Assistant Principal for Curriculum was selected by SCASA as the SC Assistant Principal of the Year.  The award recognizes outstanding leadership and is based on three main criteria of Collaborative Leadership, Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, and Personalization.

PALMETTO'S FINEST VISIT

Spring Valley has been selected for consideration for the Palmetto's Finest Award.  This is a most prestigious award, and it will truly be an honor to receive it. On December 1st  three committee members came for a day long visit. In January we will get the results of their visit.  What an honor this is for us!
